Yep, that's right...microplastics are INSIDE HUMAN BODIES! Let's break it down.
Firstly...what are microplastics? Microplastics are tiny bits of plastic, usually less than 5 millimeters. Microplastics come from two main sources: (1) Primary microplastics- These microplastics are originally manufactured to be smaller than 5 millimeters in size. A example of this would be glitter. And yes, glitter is bad for the environment. (2) The second way is through bigger pieces of plastic like plastic bags or bottles. Micro plastics will come as the bottle eventually breaks down.
The sad fact is that micro plastics have been found inside human lungs and blood. It turns out that microplastics can enter our body daily. Further research is needed to understand how microplastics affect our bodies. Whenever you drink out of something that is plastic, you may be exposed to micro plastics. Microplastics have also been found in beer, packaged sea salt, and seafood. I found this so shocking-items and foods that I see people drinking and eating so often.
I know a lot of people who love tea and to add to the list-some tea bags are made with plastic with research showing that using one plastic tea bag can release 11.6 billion microplastic particles into one cup of tea. Most teabags can contain as much as 25% of all materials used as plastic.
As I said before, we don't know what plastics in the human body can do. But for me it is very weird that microplastics can be inside our bodies!
